Welcome to Surviving to Saving!

For the past decade, I’ve been passionate about personal finance – a journey that began when I found myself in a huge amount of consumer of debt.

Like many people, I didn’t know much about managing money and debt until I found myself in a crisis situation, and had to learn fast. Since that moment, I’ve been learning more and more about what it means to manage your personal finances, how to get out of debt, budget, and save for retirement.

At the start of my journey, I was barely surviving, and I am now in a position where I am saving money every month, and able to take the unexpected costs life throws at me in my stride.

I’m passionate about helping other people learn more about money, so that they can figure out how to get themselves out of debt, and go from surviving to saving too. This site documents my journey so far, and the lessons I have learned along the way.

I have personally experienced what it is like to have zero disposable income and live paycheque to paycheque with mounting debt, as well as being debt-free and able to afford some of the luxuries many take for granted.

Surviving to Saving is a judgement-free zone. I hope to create content that gives a balanced view of personal finance topics, and that acknowledges the role that privilege and systemic societal pressures play in how easy or difficult it is to follow mainstream financial advice.
